Falkville metal man photograph

Late on October 17, 1973, Falkville, Alabama police chief Jeff Greenhaw received a call about an unusual light outside town. He drove along rural roads with a camera and said he encountered a human-sized figure standing in or near the roadway. Greenhaw described a being covered from head to foot in a reflective silver material. The head appeared pointed or conical, and no ordinary face was visible. He took several flash photographs. In the resulting images, a bright wrinkled figure stands against a dark background, its reflective covering producing a stark, almost featureless appearance. When Greenhaw moved closer, the figure reportedly ran away with long, unusual strides. No craft is visible in the photographs, and no physical trace linked the figure to the original aerial-light report. The photographs are authentic in the limited sense that physical negatives or prints have circulated from the event, but their subject remains disputed. Skeptics have argued that the figure could be a person wearing reflective protective clothing or a deliberately constructed costume. The images do not provide scale, identity or an independent view of the scene. Greenhaw denied staging the episode and said the publicity damaged his work and personal life. The case is important because it offers images attached to a named witness and a specific encounter, while also showing the limits of photography. A photograph can document what appeared before a camera without establishing what the subject was. CE3 is retained because Greenhaw reported a nearby anomalous figure in the context of an unusual-light call.
