Close encounter cases: CE1–CE5

Browse the Watchers UFO Archive by encounter type, from reported sightings to entity, abduction, and contact accounts.

These categories describe what an account reports. They are a way to browse the archive, rather than a measure of evidence or certainty. CE4 and CE5 extend the original three close encounter categories; their use varies between researchers.

• CE1 UFO sightings

Explore reported close-range UFO sightings in the Watchers UFO Archive.

• CE2 encounters and reported physical effects

Browse UFO encounters associated with reported physical effects, traces, or interference.

• CE3 close encounters and entity reports

Explore close encounters of the third kind: reports involving entities or occupants associated with a UFO encounter.

• CE4 alien abduction cases

Explore reported abductions and onboard encounters, with case narratives and available source material.

• CE5 contact encounter reports

Browse cases classified by the archive as CE5, including reported communication or intentional contact.

Enhanced CE3–CE5 case files include detailed narratives, encounter illustrations, and available videos and witness interviews.
