Case description

Elizabeth Klarer's contact story developed across several episodes in South Africa's Drakensberg region rather than one continuous encounter. In her autobiography Beyond the Light Barrier, she connected the later events to unusual aerial experiences and telepathic impressions that she said began in childhood. The public sequence took shape in the 1950s around her sister's farm near Rosetta, Natal, beneath Cathkin Peak. Local reports of a luminous 'lightning bird' helped draw her back to the hill that would become known in the literature as Flying Saucer Hill. Klarer dated an important preliminary encounter to December 27, 1954. From the hilltop she said she watched a shining disc descend and hover roughly three metres above the ground. The outer hull appeared to rotate while the central dome remained still. Through one of three portholes she believed she could see a humanlike pilot, later identified as Akon. A wave of heat or displaced air prevented her from approaching closely, and the craft left without her boarding it. On April 7, 1956, Klarer returned after further reports and described the contact becoming physical. She said Akon stood beside a landed scout ship about sixty feet in diameter. Her later account portrayed him as tall, lithe, strikingly handsome, with a high forehead, light hair, and a seamless one-piece suit. She entered the craft and met a second, darker and more heavily built crew member whom she described as both botanist and astrophysicist. A viewing lens in the floor supposedly showed the country beneath them as the scout rose with little noise or sensation of motion and approached a much larger cigar-shaped mother ship. Klarer also associated the series with photographs. In July 1956 she reportedly carried a Brownie box camera into the Drakensberg foothills with two companions and photographed a metallic disc moving against storm clouds. The published images and witness recollections belong in the record, but their existence does not establish that the object was Akon's spacecraft. Her claims expanded further in 1957. Klarer wrote that she met Akon on the high plateau of Cathkin Peak, traveled with him to Meton in the Proxima Centauri system, lived there for several months, and bore a son named Ayling before returning to Earth. Those extraordinary portions of the story rested primarily on her own testimony. She continued lecturing and writing about Akon, interstellar travel, environmental responsibility, and a civilization organized around harmony and light. The Atlas therefore preserves the full chronology while keeping its evidentiary layers separate: a first-person autobiographical narrative, photographs attributed to Klarer, some reported observers of aerial lights, and much more expansive private journey claims. None independently verifies Akon, Meton, the mother ship, or the birth story as extraterrestrial events.
