Case description
A story attributed to Anton Anfalov's personal contacts places a supposed Chinese military recovery in the Gobi Desert in 1982 or 1983. Troops allegedly found a damaged cylindrical object in an isolated area and called a specialized team. The site was reportedly secured to restrict access and prevent the information from spreading.
The cylinder was described as approximately ten metres long and two-and-a-half to three metres wide, with a particularly durable exterior. Its crew had supposedly abandoned it. No living or dead occupants were reported at the discovery site; the story instead describes equipment and seating for two or three beings inside.
The object was allegedly loaded onto a flatbed vehicle or railway platform and transported to an underground research installation in the Taihang Mountains southwest of Beijing. The same narrative asserts that another recovered object was already there. Neither transport method nor the facility's location is supported by a publicly identified military record in the accessible account.
There is a decisive later qualification. Patrick Gross reproduces a January 28,2008 message from Anfalov identifying the China 1982 crash story as a hoax. This direct source disavowal is stronger than a generic catalogue flag and must accompany the retrieval narrative. The contradictory Outer Mongolia/China label further leaves its supposed location uncertain. No occupants were actually reported, so the illustration adds none; its caption identifies the story as disavowed.
