Santurce, Puerto Rico encounter
Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico / United States
Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
At 1:55 a.m. on July 24, 2006, an unnamed woman in Santurce, the densely built San Juan district in Puerto Rico, left her sleeping area and went into the kitchen for a glass of water. Looking out the window toward a neighboring brick porch, she noticed a small figure standing on its tiled roof. What began as a quiet domestic moment became a close, sustained exchange of attention across the narrow space between the two homes.
The witness described the figure as about three feet tall and chubby, with a head disproportionately large for its body. Its most prominent facial features were an unusually large, broad nose and enormous eyes. When the figure blinked, those eyes appeared to release or reflect flashes of blue-white light. The report does not preserve a skin color, hair, ear shape, mouth, hands, feet or clothing color. Later catalogues call its garment a close-fitting one-piece outfit, but no descriptive detail survives beyond that classification.
The small figure appeared to notice the woman at the window. It turned its gaze directly toward her and stared. The witness said that she became transfixed by the eyes and their blinking light and found it difficult to look away. The account describes this as a mesmerized feeling, but it does not establish paralysis, telepathy, a beam, loss of consciousness or any other mechanism. For a short interval, the encounter consisted simply of the woman and the figure watching one another in silence.
Without breaking eye contact, the being began to walk backward across the tiled roof. It retreated toward a tree growing between the neighboring properties, then jumped into the branches and rapidly disappeared from sight. No vehicle was seen arriving or departing. No sound, spoken message, physical contact or trace was reported. The woman apparently remained in the kitchen; the available summary does not describe whether she called anyone, searched outside, checked the roof at daylight or spoke to the neighbors.
The story reached the public record indirectly. Albert Rosales attributed it to Puerto Rican investigator Luz B. Guzmán Lloveras, apparently through an email between researchers. URECAT lists the earliest known record in December 2006, several months after the alleged encounter. The witness's own verbatim statement, name, age and interview are not available, and no field investigation, second witness, photograph, drawing or official report has been located. A note says the witness also mentioned unspecified paranormal activity in or around the property, but because no details are supplied, the Atlas does not use that claim to elaborate this event.
Those gaps leave ordinary possibilities unresolved: an animal, person, object, lighting effect, dreamlike state or invented story cannot be excluded from the limited record. The report is nevertheless specific enough to reconstruct its central visual sequence without adding a craft or conventional alien features.
The Atlas portrait stays inside the kitchen with the witness and her water glass, looking toward the neighboring roof and the tree that ended the observation. The figure is shown only through the traits actually reported: small, chubby, large-headed, broad-nosed and huge-eyed, with a restrained blue-white gleam. Unreported anatomy and color are left in shadow. The image illustrates what the catalogue says the woman described; it is not presented as a witness-approved likeness or proof that an unknown being was present.
