Queensbury, New York, United States

At about 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018, an engaged couple left Interstate 87 at Exit 20 southbound near Queensbury, New York. The man was driving, his fiancée sat beside him, and their car came to a stop as he prepared to turn left. He activated the turn signal and looked in both directions for traffic. When he looked to his right, he noticed an upright shape standing in the middle of the road.
The driver described the figure as extremely tall and slender, entirely black, with stick-like proportions. He estimated that it stood thirty to fifty feet from the car and appeared to be roughly ten feet tall. He could not make out a face, eyes, hair, skin, hands or detailed clothing. The report does not say that it moved, gestured or made a sound. Its strangeness came from its height, narrow silhouette and unexpected position in the roadway rather than from any observed action.
Instead of immediately telling his passenger what he thought he was seeing, the driver asked her to describe it. As the car began the left turn, his fiancée looked again and reportedly gave the same basic description. That exchange is the most important feature of the case: the claim is not solely that one startled driver glimpsed an ambiguous shape, but that a second person also looked toward the location and said she perceived the same unusually tall, dark figure. Their agreement is reported by the driver, however; the fiancée's own written statement has not been published.
After completing the turn, the couple decided to go back. They turned around and returned to the intersection, but the figure was no longer there. Neither witness reported seeing where it went. They found no person, costume, animal, track or object that explained what they had seen. Even with the road empty, both said they felt as though something was still watching them. The entire initial observation was brief—later copies of the report list a duration of about one minute. No aerial object, unusual light, sound, physical effect, missing time or direct interaction was associated with the sighting.
The driver submitted an anonymous report through the MUFON web system within about a week and included a sketch showing the figure's position in the road. A later mirror of the MUFON text preserves his first-person wording, while URECAT reproduces the sequence and displays the witness drawing with MUFON credit. The drawing is valuable because it is tied to the reporting witness rather than being a later artist's fantasy. Its copyright and reuse permission are not established, so the Atlas links to the source page instead of copying the image.
The evidence remains limited. The witnesses are anonymous, the exact intersection is not identified beyond the highway exit, no field-investigation report is available, and there is no photograph, video, traffic-camera record or independent third witness. Darkness, distance, roadside objects, an unusually tall person, a prank, a distorted estimate or a fabricated report remain possible. The resemblance to later internet horror imagery also requires caution, although resemblance alone cannot decide what the couple saw.
The Watchers Project portrait adopts the driver's viewpoint from inside the stopped car. Both occupants face one featureless black silhouette positioned at the reported distance beneath ordinary roadside lighting. The figure is intentionally ambiguous and contains no invented eyes, claws, alien anatomy or supernatural effect. The image illustrates the two-witness report while the source link preserves access to the witness's own sketch.
