Case description
Mrs S., an anonymous woman aged about 57 at the alleged event, described an encounter near Amfreville-la-Mi-Voie on the road along the Seine toward Rouen. B. Delabroye interviewed her on 30 May 1972 after a television programme prompted her to report it. His published account places the observation in the first half of July 1947, around 15:00, on a sunny, cloudless afternoon. The imported 31 July date is more precise than that source supports.
She said she saw a matte-grey oval resting on the road, about 3 metres long and 1–2 metres high, without wheels or landing supports. Two figures under a metre tall, wearing grey clothing and brimless grey head coverings, were occupied beside it. At roughly 100 metres she dismounted her bicycle and rang its bell. The figures turned, hurried through a circular opening, and the object allegedly rose silently, paused while oscillating, then accelerated southeast.
The recovered source is a recollection reported about twenty-five years later, not a contemporary 1947 investigation. Delabroye's favourable opinion of her sincerity does not independently verify the event. Faces, anatomy and the figures' task were unresolved; the plate retains those limits and uses an illustrative landscape and portrait.
