Case description
The Alain Bérard story is assigned to an unspecified French farm on the night of February 17, 1949. Its traceable publication is Peter Kolosimo's article in the March 1958 issue of Oltre il Cielo, rather than a contemporary witness statement from 1949. The account supplies a name but no locality, investigative record or explanation of how Kolosimo obtained it. Vallée subsequently incorporated the story into his landing catalogue.
Bérard supposedly noticed a bright object descending near his farm with an intense green flash. He left his bedroom without waking his wife and approached the darkened mass outside. Three figures were said to move toward him on short, stocky legs, with no visible heads. Frightened, he allegedly fired three shots. The figures reportedly became lost in the object's darkness before it rose and disappeared with another green flash.
No identified second observer, recovered object, impact evidence or contemporaneous police report accompanies the accessible source chain. The wife's presence in the house is not corroboration of the outside scene. Gross regards invention as possible but does not establish a documented confession. The plate labels the account's late and unsourced character, uses unresolved silhouettes rather than invented anatomy, and omits the shooting. Its generic farm and object form are contextual interpretations, not a recovered image or a precisely located reconstruction.
