Case description
The Jacumba story survives in HUMCAT as a short newspaper item about an anonymous woman’s telephone call. The catalogue assigns 31 March 1950 at night, while identifying the clipping only as a local newspaper dated either 31 March or 1 April. The original newspaper’s name and a direct interview were not supplied, so this is less securely documented than a named eyewitness deposition.
The caller reportedly said a flying saucer landed on Highway 80 near Jacumba, California. A small man emerged and ran toward the Imperial Valley, supposedly faster than sprinter Jesse Owens. That is a colorful comparison, not a measured speed. The imported digest adds a four-foot height estimate and calls the witness experienced, qualifications not established by the retrieved HUMCAT item. The figure’s facial features, clothing and eventual destination are unspecified.
A later historical review reproduces a contemporary United Press follow-up: sheriff’s deputies found no trace, while the El Centro Naval Auxiliary Air Station sent two aircraft and an automobile after receiving similar calls. Naval investigators described a male reporting party as intoxicated. That negative finding belongs to a related Jacumba report; the available text does not establish that this man was the anonymous female caller or prove that every call had one source. HUMCAT itself lists no investigator. The record therefore preserves an anonymous landing claim alongside unsuccessful contemporary checks and a credibility problem in the associated reporting, rather than a confirmed craft or identified alien.
