Case description
In April 1950, according to a later account attributed to Kenneth Arnold and Jerome Clark, Ellen Jonerson was working on her lawn in Canby, Oregon, when she noticed an exceptionally small figure on a neighbouring property. Initially its back was turned. When it faced her, she described a stocky, broad-shouldered man no more than twelve inches, or approximately thirty centimetres, tall. The report gives daylight conditions but no exact date or street address.
The figure's appearance was humanlike rather than the large-headed form of later alien imagery. Jonerson described a heavily tanned face, hair similar in colour, a cap worn toward the back of the head, overalls and a plaid shirt. She went inside to call a friend. On returning, she saw the figure moving away with a waddling gait. It reportedly passed beneath a 1937 Dodge without bending down, after which she lost sight of it.
The available summary does not establish that the friend also saw the figure, and does not describe a vehicle arriving from the sky, a landing, communications or physical traces. Arnold's later recollection characterises Jonerson favourably, but this is an assessment of the witness rather than an independent observation of the event. A precise location and contemporaneous investigative record have not been established here. The plate uses the car to convey the reported scale and preserves the absence of any observed spacecraft.
