Case description
A woman identified in later accounts as Mrs. Deshais reportedly encountered two objects near the chapel esplanade overlooking Tonnerre on September 4, 1953, around 9:30 p.m. Three short, stocky figures ran toward them. The catalogue describes oversized heads, helmets and boots, without establishing visible facial anatomy.
One figure entered an elongated object, approximately five metres long and one and a half metres wide, while the other two entered a spherical object. The elongated craft reportedly spread wing-like structures, resembling a butterfly, then tipped upright onto a tripod. Both objects departed. Later retellings add a smaller disc atop the sphere, more elaborate movement and sound details, and impressions in the ground; those additions should not be mistaken for separate contemporary corroboration.
Vallée's Magonia catalogue cites a 1968 GEPA publication, about fifteen years after the alleged event. The report therefore remains a retrospective account rather than an examined 1953 investigation with independently authenticated traces. The plate explicitly compresses successive phases: the figures are visible outside while the elongated craft displays the wings reportedly deployed after boarding. This composition illustrates the narrative's distinctive equipment without implying that every depicted detail was observed simultaneously.
