Case description
At 12:18 a.m. on June 24, 1953, a woman at Hampton Bays, Long Island, reportedly watched an unusually shaped object approach her waterside home. The original Project Blue Book file preserves her written descriptions and drawings made by her husband from what she told him. Her husband's preparation of those drawings does not make him a second eyewitness to this particular sighting.
She initially interpreted the slowly oscillating object as a novel aircraft. The account describes a large circular body, red lights around its deck and a small streamlined cabin with four visible windows. The cabin reportedly rose on a polished support, turned and lowered again before departure. A buzzing sound accompanied the observation, which lasted about three minutes. No occupant was seen. The drawings show a shallow inverted-cone underside and closely spaced rim lights, rather than a conventional saucer dome. One site diagram labels the hovering height as 25 feet; later metric summaries give 25 metres, a substantial difference that remains unresolved here.
The file also contains later reports, which should not be folded into theJune 24 scene. Yellowish material mentioned in trace catalogues was noticed two days afterward, without a demonstrated connection to the object. Blue Book's record card assigns a psychological explanation and characterises the sighting as imagination; this is the agency's assessment, not a medical diagnosis established by this Atlas entry. The plate follows the contemporary drawings and preserves the explicit absence of observed occupants.
