Case description
Amerigo Lorenzini’s rabbit-hutch story belongs to Isola di Ortonovo near La Spezia, Italy, in November 1954. The common Vallée digest dates it to 14 November and calls it afternoon; the HUMCAT correction and fuller Italian-source catalogue give 11 November at approximately 19:45. The discrepancy remains explicit rather than treating the compressed version as an exact record. Lorenzini, reportedly forty-eight, was tending his rabbits outside his home.
He said swishing and metallic sounds preceded a dazzling light. After recovering his view, he saw a bright cigar-shaped object in a nearby clearing. An opening appeared and three small figures in metallic diving-suit-like coverings came out. The fuller synopsis says their faces were covered as well. From behind his doorway, he watched them approach the rabbit cage and speak in an unfamiliar language. Believing they intended to take the animals, he tried his rifle twice, but said it did not discharge and he became too weak to keep holding it or call out.
The figures allegedly took rabbits and returned to the craft, which departed with a bright trail. Lorenzini said the rifle could then fire, after the object was beyond reach. This is a reported sequence, not an independently tested weapon effect or medical finding. Later researcher Maurizio Verga suspected press exaggeration. The illustration uses covered faces, the farmer’s doorway and gently held rabbits, without adding familiar alien eyes, harm to the animals or a completed shooting.
