Case description
A short account from Melito di Napoli describes a young man walking in a field on October 21, 1954. After hearing a rustling noise, he allegedly saw an unusual craft land nearby and approached to investigate. The surviving catalogue description does not supply a reliable measured size or resolved shape.
A figure compared to a pilot in a diving suit reportedly came out. Bronze-green rays from the object illuminated the surrounding countryside, and the witness said he became unable to move. A dog barking approximately one hundred metres away was then said to startle the figure, which quickly returned inside before the craft took off. No face or other distinctive anatomy was recorded; the diving-suit comparison should not be expanded into a modern grey-alien description.
Vallée's Magonia entry preserves this compact sequence, while INTCAT traces it to Italian newspapers of October 22 and to Maurizio Verga's later catalogue. Verga suspected a press fabrication. That assessment is a significant caution, although it is not an examined witness confession. Without the underlying testimony or an independent investigation, the detailed mechanism, identity of the figure and reality of the event remain unestablished. The plate keeps the craft unresolved within its reported coloured light and labels the sparse and disputed press provenance.
