Case description
The Fontenay-Torcy digest appears to refer to the 18 October 1954 bicycle encounter near Saint-Samson-la-Poterie, Oise. Later catalogues call the couple Lherminier; contemporary L’Oise-Matin reporting identifies André Vasseur and his wife, returning after visiting family at Fontenay-Torcy. The reporting chain should not silently turn those names into independently corroborating couples. They said they noticed a red cigar-like glow in the clear night sky at about 20:45.
The light reportedly plunged downward with a red trail and disappeared behind a hedge some distance from the road. Farther along, the woman encountered a squat, approximately metre-tall humanlike figure very close to her bicycle. It had a helmeted head and striking orange eye-light. She reportedly lost consciousness, while her husband helped her and managed both bicycles. A gendarmerie summary instead emphasizes headaches and weakness or paralysis in their legs, describing a dark face and reflective leather-like jacket. Neither source supplies an observed boarding or takeoff linking the figure physically to a craft.
Reporters and officials inspected the area. Two small round marks were considered inconclusive, and no landing trace was found. Other people described the aerial cigar, rather than confirming the roadside figure. The record therefore keeps the luminous descent and later close encounter as successive reported phases. The illustration labels its combination as a sequence composite and avoids claiming that the light actually landed beside the figure or that a physiological effect was independently diagnosed.
