Case description
At about 9 p.m. on October 12, 1954, farm worker Franzesko Beuc reportedly noticed a small vehicle beside National Road 461 near Orchamps-Vennes. Early newspaper accounts described something resembling a Renault 4CV, supported by four wheels about forty centimetres across. Beuc said he approached within a metre and saw a short man, about 1.5 metres tall, wearing leather clothing and a cap.
When Beuc addressed him, the man allegedly entered the vehicle without replying. It rolled along the road for approximately thirty metres and then appeared to rise like an aeroplane. Later catalogue wording about thirty minutes conflicts with that earlier distance. Beuc related the experience at a local café; the newspaper coverage followed roughly two weeks afterward. Retellings increasingly replaced the car, its wheels and the human-looking driver with an unspecified craft and alien occupant.
Patrick Gross reproduces contemporary press and Jean Tyrode's retrospective inquiries with residents, the employer and gendarmerie. They raise language, visibility and reliability problems. A later local correspondent proposed a car misidentified in fog, which is an explanation rather than a documented hoax confession. The earliest recoverable description supports an ordinary-looking vehicle and clothed human figure; the alleged airborne departure remains disputed.
