Branch Hill entity encounter — 1955

Robert Hunnicutt told Ted Bloecher and Leonard Stringfield in September 1956 that he had stopped on the Madeira–Loveland Pike near Branch Hill at about 3:30 a.m. in 1955. His headlights revealed three figures initially mistaken for kneeling men. They were standing, about 3½feet tall, with grey colouring, broad straight mouths, ordinary-looking eyes without eyebrows and bald heads bearing horizontal folds. He also described lopsided chests and unequal arm lengths. The nearest figure held a rod- or chain-like implement above its head, with blue-white sparks passing between its hands. As Hunnicutt left his car, it lowered the implement toward its own ankles. He watched the silent trio, started forward, then stopped when they moved toward him. He eventually drove to Police Chief John Fritz's home, noticing a strong alfalfa-and-almond odour. Fritz searched the road but found nothing. The detailed interview describes continuous observation and a deliberate departure, contrasting with later catalogue claims of a blackout or forgotten interval. No craft was seen. Bloecher inferred May 25 from a newspaper report of a separate May 24 evening Ground Observer Corps sighting; the witness and Fritz had initially recalled March or April. That other sighting is not evidence of a vehicle beside the beings. The later Loveland frog legends and bridge encounter remain separate cases.
