Case description

Clélia T. R. later said that on September 10 or 11, 1956, she visited a house near Saco de São Francisco beach in Niterói, Brazil. At about 11:00 she waited for a bus near the water. A brilliant object approached over the bay with a deafening sound, and bathers reportedly hurried ashore. Her ordinary memory then broke. In the sequence she later recalled, Clélia found herself lying inside a curved corridor beside a motionless young man she believed was one of the bathers. Two helmeted figures carried or escorted them toward a circular room. The other person's identity was never established in the surviving account. Inside the circular chamber, a gray-haired man spoke to Clélia in Portuguese and announced that she would be examined. She was placed on a high metal table while a movable device passed over her and projected violet light in a square pattern. She described the procedure as a scan rather than surgery. The gray-haired man reportedly discussed a scar from an earlier operation, future contact and restrictions on what she would be able to remember. He then showed her a control room. These statements are attributed to Clélia's later recollection; no recording, recovered instrument or independent onboard witness is available to confirm them. After another gap, she found herself back beside the road. The bathers, including the young man she associated with the corridor, boarded the same bus. Someone reportedly said that the time was 16:30, while Clélia's watch had stopped at 12:05. If accurate, the interval would represent several hours of missing time, but the watch itself and a documented repair examination have not been produced for this dossier. Clélia said that newspaper reports about the object helped restore her memories about a week later. Even so, she did not publicly disclose the account until 1975, almost nineteen years after the date she assigned to it. That long delay makes it difficult to separate immediate memory from later reconstruction. Investigators interviewed her in 1975 and 1976. Hypnotist Sylvio Lago conducted a session on May 5, 1976; the republished investigation says the hypnotic account broadly repeated her waking narrative. Hypnosis is not treated by the Atlas as a truth detector, and consistency under hypnosis does not independently verify transport or examination. The investigators could not relocate the house Clélia said she had visited, and the bathers remained unidentified. Researcher Altino Nunes suggested a dream or an absence episode as an alternative. The report therefore contains specific remembered imagery and a named investigation history but lacks contemporary physical evidence and independent witness confirmation. The event date is also uncertain: the narrative gives September 10 or 11, while a malformed imported date field cannot be treated literally. The Atlas uses September 1956 and preserves the discrepancy. CE4 records Clélia's claimed involuntary transport and onboard examination, not an established extraterrestrial cause. The portrait reconstructs the central remembered scene without exploitation: Clélia remains fully clothed on a metal table while a non-contact device casts violet light, one gray-haired man speaks, and two helmeted attendants observe. It shows no surgery, restraint or nudity. It is an illustrative reconstruction, not documentary evidence.
