Stavanger, Norway
Open this case in the interactive Atlas
Case description
A woodcutter near Stavanger, Norway, reported seeing an unfamiliar machine land on January 4, 1958. A very tall humanlike figure, described as having a tanned-looking face and wearing a helmet, stepped outside. The witness watched the figure remain near the machine for several minutes.
The figure then returned inside and the object departed. The principal chronology compares the departure sound to a flock of birds. Some later shortened listings instead call the departure silent, so the original sound description is retained as a reported detail rather than harmonizing the versions.
Air Force personnel and police reportedly searched the snow-covered hill afterward. The available abstract does not say that this search produced confirmed landing traces. Jacques Vallée included the case as Magonia entry 455, citing Flying Saucer Review. The image uses a snowy wooded setting and an indistinct machine; a precise craft shape or witness likeness cannot be recovered from the brief account.
