Shimada City landing and suited beings — January 26 1958

At about 4 p.m. on 26 January 1958, chemical workers in Shimada City, Japan, reportedly saw an exceptionally bright object descend and land. The short account then says beings came down from the sky without parachutes. They wore unfamiliar suits and spoke a language the workers did not recognise. The sequence is unusual, but the summary supplies no explanation of how the figures moved between the sky and the ground. The episode is preserved as case 458 in Jacques Vallée’s Magonia catalogue, with a reference to Flying Saucer Review, volume 4, number 3, in 1958. Later chronologies repeat essentially the same few details. They do not identify individual workers, the chemical works, the number of figures or the duration of the encounter. No accessible departure sequence or physical-trace investigation appears in those entries. Consequently, a bright landed object and suited figures are the supported visual elements; a metallic disc, particular helmet design, alien facial anatomy or technical means of descent would add information the source does not provide. The language being unrecognised by these witnesses also does not establish that it was nonhuman. The Atlas retains this as a sparse historical report, with a contextual illustration that deliberately leaves the object’s outline and the figures’ features unresolved.
