Bouamama French Foreign Legion sentry encounter — March 1958

A few minutes after 12:30 a.m. during March 1958, French Foreign Legionnaire N.G. was alone on sentry duty outside a fortified camp at Bouamama, Algeria. He heard a descending whistling tone and saw an enormous roundish object come down over the desert, level off roughly 35 to 40 meters above the ground, and remain motionless with its nearest edge about 50 meters away. A pale green glow surrounded the object and an intense emerald-green beam extended from its underside to the sand. N.G. watched for approximately forty-five to fifty minutes and reported an overwhelming calm, euphoria, and a sense that time was moving slowly. When the whistling returned, the object climbed, accelerated toward the northwest, and disappeared. N.G. telephoned the report after it left. A ground search found no marks, material, footprints, or odor, and he later spent a week under neurological and psychiatric observation, including a normal EEG.
