Case description
Mr Piednoir reportedly saw a very bright object in a wheat field at Saint-Martin-de-la-Place on 29 November 1954. A short figure stood beside it. The newspaper descriptions later collected by Jean Sider give an estimated height of 1.3 metres, while the imported abstract rounds it to 1.2 metres and places the observation around seven in the evening. No detailed face, clothing or conversation is preserved.
Le Baugeois of 3 December and L’Écho Républicain of 11 December are cited for the report. Crucially, the earlier wording says the witness’s lamp went out. Later compilations transformed that limited claim into a power outage across the surrounding area. Without additional evidence, failure of one torch does not establish a neighbourhood blackout or an electromagnetic mechanism associated with the object.
A much later correspondent supplied local recollections and an approximate site near the Authion, between Le Guet de Fresne and Les Pâtures. This helps explain the report’s local history but is not an independent eyewitness confirmation. The available account supplies neither an arrival-and-departure sequence nor physical evidence identifying a craft or being. The illustration therefore keeps the small figure indistinct beside a luminous form and shows an unlit torch, preserving the source’s narrow claim rather than its later expansion.
