Camaqua, Brazil being encounter — December 31, 1954

The Camaquã report has circulated in conflicting forms. A brief account gives 31 December 1954, shortly after midnight, and four men in a forest. A fuller version attributed to Jader Pereira and Felipe Machado Carrion instead gives 1 January 1955 at about 12:05 a.m. and names João Rodel, his wife, their two children and an employee fishing at a lagoon. These differences remain unresolved. In the fuller account, a disc approximately 30 metres across descended from altitude to hover about a metre above the ground. It lit the surrounding area and appeared to stir the grass. A humanlike figure, estimated at 1.8 metres tall, appeared near the cupola. A narrow vertical column of light was described. The figure subsequently carried a flashlight, seemed to examine the ground and nearby water, then returned to the object by way of the light column. The object projected another beam and released two small spheres successively over the lagoon. As they approached, the frightened witnesses left. The source review could not establish when the story was first reported, whether witnesses were interviewed separately, or whether an investigation occurred. The plate combines successive phases of the fuller lagoon version and labels the date uncertainty.
