Case description
The Forêt de Chizé story was attributed to a husband and wife driving slowly uphill near Buffe à Jasse on a spring morning in 1955. Later summaries specify March or April and approximately 9 a.m. Through leafless trees, they reportedly noticed something stationary about ten metres from the road, with its lower portion concealed by vegetation.
The fuller description is unusually specific: mixed blue, green and gray colors, a slightly translucent mica-like dome, and a red cone pointing upward above it. Several figures, estimated at 80–90 centimetres tall, moved nearby wearing pointed hats compared to medieval hennins. Their faces, skin, hands and exact number were not described. Neither a landing sequence nor a departure was observed, and no interaction with the motorists is recorded.
Figuet and Ruchon's 1979 book traced the account to Pierre Bellemare's February 1976 radio program, more than twenty years after the alleged event. Figuet subsequently included Chizé in a list of highly doubtful cases because the information was scant and no investigation existed. The original broadcast and identifiable witness statements remain unrecovered. The plate preserves the distinctive cone, dome and hats while labelling the late, doubtful source; it cannot establish that the stationary scene involved a flying vehicle.
