Case description

At about 4 a.m. on 16 August 1955, Bradford lorry driver Ernest Suddards, 35, and his thirteen-year-old son reportedly saw a small figure on Roundhill Street. The account describes something resembling a boy about four feet tall, dressed in close-fitting black clothing. Its arms remained down by its sides and its feet stayed together as it moved with a series of abrupt hops. The most distinctive detail was a circular silver object below its throat, described as perforated with holes. This was a chest ornament or attachment, not an airborne disc. The figure entered a passage and disappeared from the witnesses’ view. No spacecraft, landing, conversation or subsequent examination of the figure is described in the recovered account. The story circulated through British UFO publications, with an early reference to Jack Ibson in Flying Saucer News in autumn 1955. Later catalogues sometimes mix it with Joseph Wood’s separate 19 August observation of a buzzing, bullet-shaped object near Bradford. That later object should not be supplied as the hopping figure’s vehicle. The preserved description supports a puzzling humanlike roadside figure; it does not establish a robot, alien identity or connection between the two reports.

Bradford starts 10:21; Ibson at 10:38 and Ernest at 10:55. Narrator says August 15 evening; native catalogues give August 16 about 04:00. Suddard/Suddards and transcribed Sutter(s), and Brown Hill/Roundhill, vary. Joseph Wood's August 19 Bowling Park object is a separate later report; the figure had no observed craft. UFO-0897 and UFO-10323 represent the same encounter.
