Riverside children’s figure report — August 22, 1955

Children playing at the Douglas family home in Casa Blanca, near Riverside, California, reported a remarkable series of sights in August 1955. August 22 is commonly used, but August 29 also appears, and the stated number and ages of children vary. Saucer News and later FSR, Lorenzen and Vallée summaries preserve conflicting fragments rather than a consistent set of interviews. The children described luminous or silvery discs appearing and vanishing with musical ping-like sounds, with one low near a field. Some reported a short being with a round head, red eyes and mouth, and four diamond-like facial marks. Later versions give four legs and arms branching at the elbows; other children described transparent forms or a beckoning arm. These are variant reports, not established anatomy shared by every witness. An invitation to climb a tree for a ride does not document a completed journey aboard a craft. Adults reportedly called to observe did not corroborate the phenomena in one version. The reporting history contains acknowledged contradictions and uncertain investigation.
