Alta Fjord silent delta object enters the water — June 1 1958

At about 11:15 a.m. on June 1, 1958, Bjørn Taraldsen, Nils M. Turi, Kate Julsen, and Rasmus Hykkerud watched a silent, unmarked aircraft-like object descend into Alta Fjord in northern Norway. The object resembled a twin-engine delta-winged jet. When it struck or entered the water, a column of water rose from the impact area, where the fjord was about seventy meters deep. Other people reached the site approximately half an hour later and found dead fish but no floating wreckage. The Norwegian frigate KNM Arendal, the submarine KNM Sarpen, and divers searched the fjord for more than a week without recovering an aircraft. During the search, the Arendal reportedly obtained a sonar reading from a mobile underwater object.
