Case description
The June 1956 Fort Feyzin story concerns Roland M., then described as twenty-one, cycling to work around six in the morning between Corbas and the fort. He allegedly noticed a bright metallic object on the ground to the left of his route. It was described as elliptical with a raised centre, like a miner’s helmet. This episode is separate from the airborne light attributed to the same witness near Feyzin in September 1954.
In the later published account, a small figure resembling a child of about nine stood or moved slowly in front of the object. It had an oversized head, broad shoulders and a grey diving-suit appearance. The figure went behind the craft and disappeared from view. The object then rose in a spiral without an obvious engine noise. Roland reportedly experienced shock and difficulty pedalling; the record does not establish that an external force physically paralysed him.
A material qualification appears in the source history: Gérard Barthel and Jacques Brucker reported in 1979 that they located Roland and that he denied both the 1954 and 1956 stories, blaming newspaper embellishment. That is a reported witness denial, not merely a vague possibility of misidentification. The accessible comparison preserves competing publications rather than a recording of the interview, so the denial should remain attributed. The illustration represents the disputed narrative, not an authenticated occurrence.
