At about 9:24 p.m. on July 20, 1958, a U.S. Navy aircraft was flying at about eight thousand feet twelve miles north of Hamar, Norway. Three people aboard, including two experienced naval pilots, saw two bright white rocket-shaped oblong objects with blue gas trails about seven times the length of the objects. They moved on an approximate true course of 330 degrees, with the right-hand object appearing slightly ahead. As they passed aft of the aircraft, one object appeared to veer away. On the same night, defense observers in northern Sweden reported a huge rocket-like fireball in the northwestern sky at an estimated altitude of fifteen hundred feet.
