Devil’s Canyon hunter sees landed saucer and three tall figures — October 1958

An anonymous hunter described an encounter in Devil’s Canyon, between Blackhead and Roundtop mountains near Hunter, New York, shortly before deer season in October 1958. The account circulated through MUFON’s online reporting system decades later. Its historical setting should therefore be distinguished from the much later publication of the narrative; no exact day is secured. The hunter said he found a disc in a clearing about a hundred yards into the woods, standing roughly eight feet above the ground. He described a mostly flat underside, visible supports, a small off-centre dome and a band of blended, muted coloured lights. Two extremely tall, thin figures stood beyond it. After a walkway extended, a third descended and pointed towards his hiding place. He interpreted their subsequent movements as an attempt to surround him. He reportedly backed away with his rifle and hid in a roadside culvert. No facial features were discerned, and the available retelling supplies no physical sample, contemporary official investigation or independently identified second witness.
