Case description
Ina Salter’s report concerns a late-evening drive along an isolated section of Route 53 near Georgetown, Connecticut, in February 1957. She described coming upon a low cigar-shaped object beside or over the road. The object was estimated at roughly fifteen feet, or five metres, long. A series of circular portholes, approximately half a metre across, glowed with yellow light.
Salter reported movement behind the illuminated openings, perceived as shadows rather than clearly resolved people. As her car approached, the object rose rapidly, hovered briefly and then departed. The available summaries do not describe a conversation, an occupant outside the object, an entry into the car or an interruption of the journey. The reported beings are therefore represented only by indistinct shadows within the windows.
The encounter appears as case 387 in Jacques Vallée’s Magonia catalogue and is associated with APRO reporting. Later summaries supply a more specific February date, whereas the Atlas’s Hatch entry retains month precision and gives approximately 10:10 p.m. The plate preserves February rather than asserting an independently established day. This Connecticut report should also be kept separate from similarly dated Georgetown, Massachusetts, cases.
