Braemar soldiers encounter two tall figures and ground-level disc — November 1958

During a November 1958 Territorial Army exercise in the Braemar–Ballater area of Deeside, two soldiers reportedly encountered an unusual sound and two exceptionally tall figures. The catalogue gives an approximate time of 5 a.m., without a calendar day. A fuller retelling describes the men guarding a small hill near trees when they heard a gurgling noise and saw two figures more than two metres tall approaching. The witnesses associated the noise with the figures, although identifying it as conversation was their interpretation. Both figures wore unfamiliar suits that appeared to restrict their movement. The soldiers fled. As they ran, they heard a swishing sound, looked back and saw a large luminous disc travelling very close to the ground. It then passed over them and departed, pulsating and trailing sparks. The two stages—figures first, moving disc afterwards—should not be collapsed into an observed boarding. The account says Post Office engineers subsequently found the soldiers badly shaken near the scene.
