Case description
Hans Gustavsson and Stig Rydberg claimed that, while driving home near Domsten early on December 20, 1958, they stopped to investigate a glow in the woods. They described a disc about five metres wide standing on three legs, with several small gray forms moving nearby. Their story placed the encounter at approximately 2:55 a.m., though the later Swedish reconstruction uses shortly after three.
The alleged beings differed markedly from standard humanoids: soft or fluid-looking, gray, and without clearly defined heads or limbs. The men claimed the forms grabbed them and attempted to pull Gustavsson toward the object. Rydberg said he reached the car and sounded its horn, after which the beings retreated and the disc departed. Subsequent hypnotic questioning was once presented as support for the story, but hypnosis did not independently establish that these events occurred.
This case has a documented hoax finding. UFO-Sweden states that Clas Svahn and Anders Liljegren exposed the fabrication in 1989, identifying influences including the Tom Trick science-fiction series and contemporary saucer publicity. An acquaintance later acknowledged participation in the deception. The image therefore illustrates the historical hoax narrative, with an explicit hoax-context label, rather than presenting the supposed beings as a verified encounter.
