Case description
Truck driver Malvin Stevens, whose name also appears as Malvan Stephens, reported meeting three small figures on State Highway 19 near House, northwest of Meridian, Mississippi, on November 7, 1957. Contemporary-style summaries place the episode around 7:25 in the morning; one later table prints p.m. The plate follows the morning version while the time discrepancy remains explicit here. Stevens was forty-eight and worked for Cook Lines.
He said an unusual object was parked on the road. At first he thought it might be a weather balloon. It was subsequently described as gray or silvery and egg-shaped, with a propeller-like projection at each end and another on top. When he left his truck, a door reportedly opened and three figures emerged. They were about four and a half feet tall, in gray clothing, with very pale faces. Richard Hall’s later summary also mentions dark hair. They should therefore not automatically be rendered as bald, black-eyed “Greys.”
Stevens said the figures seemed friendly and tried to communicate, but he could not understand their rapid chattering. They returned inside and the object rose vertically. He estimated the encounter at roughly two minutes and said his vehicle’s engine had not been affected. Later retellings differ about his direction of travel.
Colleagues described him as reliable and shaken afterward, but those reactions do not independently verify the craft or its occupants. A separately reported aerial observation by a child in the area does not confirm the roadside conversation. The reconstruction shows the initial meeting, retaining the unusual propeller-like features without inventing a propulsion explanation.
