Case description

Mary Starr reportedly awoke to a bright light outside her Old Saybrook home in the early hours of December 16, 1957. Looking through a window, she saw an object initially resembling an aircraft fuselage, stopped a short distance away. Four large lit windows revealed two figures passing one another with their right arms raised; a third similar figure was also reported. HUMCAT describes yellow jackets and square-looking heads. The often-used robot comparison is an interpretation of their appearance and movement, not a demonstrated mechanical construction. The figures remained inside the object; Starr did not report meeting them outside. The window lights went out, and the craft reportedly became bright like polished brass while a antenna rotated at one end. Its color then changed toward blue-gray. As it moved backward, she could make out a thin, flattened ellipse, which subsequently tilted and rose rapidly. Richard Hall and Isabel Davis investigated, and HUMCAT cites their report. A date correction favors December 16 from the NICAP submission over December 18 in an earlier Flying Saucer Review account. Published summaries also vary between two occupants and three. The record preserves the sequence without treating the square heads as evidence of a particular alien species.
