Shimada, Jpn being encounter — January 26, 1958

The original Flying Saucer Review item places this incident near the Ohi River estuary, close to Shimada City in Shizuoka Prefecture, at 16:00 on 26 January 1958. A very bright object reportedly approached from the direction of Suruga Bay, paused in the sky and eventually landed on the river beach. Many workers from a nearby chemical plant were said to have seen the object. The magazine attributes the news to the local Shizuoka Shimbun, without reproducing a signed worker statement. The entity observation is attributed more specifically to schoolboys. Strange people allegedly began descending from the sky without parachutes, wearing clothes compared with those used by divers. One boy remarked that he had never seen people fall from the sky in that fashion. He also described their speech as an unfamiliar, unearthly-sounding tongue, likening it to a monkey's sounds. This was the boy's comparison of their voices, not a description of simian bodies. The report does not give the boys' names, reliable figure counts, facial features or an observed doorway connecting the people with the landed object. Later catalogues compress the workers' object sighting and boys' entity report into one short account. The original separates those witness roles and offers no physical trace, photograph or identified language. Its following paragraph concerns another Japanese landing in Hokkaido and must not supply an egg-shaped craft or named farmers for Shimada. The reconstruction uses the river setting and diver-like clothing while keeping the figures' faces and the bright object's construction unresolved.
