Case description
This Williamston, Michigan, entry belongs to the newspaper airship stories circulating in April 1897. The catalogue date is April 17, in the morning. It says that at least a dozen farmers watched an aerial object manoeuvre for roughly an hour before it landed near the village.
The extraordinary part of the story is its supposed pilot: a man nearly three metres tall, described as overheated and scarcely using the clothing available to him. His voice was compared to musical bellowing rather than intelligible speech. A fuller version also alleges that a farmer approaching him received a blow and suffered a broken hip. The available digest does not provide a verified medical record, identified injured farmer or independently established pilot description.
These are historical story elements, not proof of an encounter or an identified vehicle. A separate April 16 evening light report from Williamston should not be silently used to corroborate this next morning's giant-pilot narrative. The reconstruction visibly labels the account unverified and shows period farmers, an indistinct landed machine and only the pilot's head and shoulders above its hull, avoiding both nudity and the claimed injury.
