Case description
Two Territorial Army soldiers reportedly encountered strange figures during manoeuvres in the Braemar–Ballater area of Scotland in November 1958. The catalogue gives approximately 5 a.m., but no day of the month. Hearing an unusual gurgling noise among trees, the men went to investigate. Two figures more than seven feet tall allegedly emerged from the wooded area.
The figures' unusual garments appeared to hamper their movement, giving them a stumbling or awkward gait. The soldiers fled toward the road rather than continuing to approach. They then heard a swishing sound and saw an enormous luminous disc following only a few feet above the road. It reportedly overtook them overhead, giving off a pulsating light and leaving a trail of sparks.
The HUMCAT summary traces the story to Flying Saucer Review, volume 5, number 3, and it later entered Jacques Vallée's landing catalogue. The surviving compact narrative does not identify the soldiers, give a detailed suit colour or describe the figures' faces. It also does not demonstrate a boarding or disembarkation: the connection between the beings and disc rests on their appearance within the same reported sequence. The plate combines those phases and leaves the bulky clothing and faces indistinct. The witnesses' military status does not by itself establish a documented military investigation.
