Case description
Leonard Hewins of Tredington reported seeing a round, fiery object descend from the east near Stratford-on-Avon in January 1959, around 5:15 in the afternoon. The summary associated with John D. Llewellyn’s later Flying Saucer Review article places its landing roughly a hundred metres away. After it stopped, the fiery illumination subsided and a blue haze formed around the object.
Three tall, fair-haired, human-looking figures in blue coveralls reportedly moved clumsily in that haze. Vallée’s shorter account says they emerged and seemed to sit down, while a fuller version adds a fourth figure and arranges them in two pairs of seats. The object became red again and departed westward with a rushing sound and a trail of multicoloured sparks. Hewins also described being unable to move during the episode, although the surviving summaries do not establish why.
The cited magazine publication dates from 1967, about eight years after the claimed event. The available source comparison notes the missing original investigation and Hewins’s reports of earlier sightings, and treats the explanation as uncertain rather than demonstrating a hoax. The Atlas gives a slightly different minute and omits the fourth figure. The plate follows the three-figure phase, retaining ordinary human appearance, blue clothing and haze instead of inventing an unfamiliar alien anatomy.
