Case description
This entry concerns the second evening of Father William Booth Gill’s Boianai observations, June 27, 1959. Gill’s written report says Annie Laurie Borewa first noticed the large light around six, and he began watching shortly afterward with Ananias Rarata and other mission residents. Four apparently human figures became visible on its upper platform; two seemed occupied with something near the center.
Gill raised an arm and waved. One figure appeared to respond. Ananias then waved both arms, followed by further gestures from the group, and all four distant figures seemed to wave back. Gill regarded this as a response, while describing their appearance as human rather than identifying nonhuman anatomy. Flashlight signals were followed by a sideways rocking movement of the object, interpreted as another acknowledgment. Shouting produced no spoken reply.
The figures later disappeared below the platform, with two reappearing around 6:25. Gill went to dinner, then evensong; cloud eventually obscured the sky. A much later loud explosion had no observed object attached to it. His July report explicitly cautioned against treating hurried personal interpretations as established conclusions. The waving episode is distinctive testimony, but neither the crew’s identity nor the light’s nature was independently determined.
