Case description
Joseph Perry’s Grand Blanc case concerns a photograph, not a described encounter with a visible occupant. NICAP’s March 1960 UFO Investigator reported a lunar photograph dated 13 February, showing a domed, saucer-like mark with a green trail. Hatch’s later abstract compressed the story into a photograph taken and seized by FBI-like men.
The FBI correspondence gives a different account. A March memorandum says Perry asked agents to visit and described photographing the Moon through a homemade telescope around 1 a.m. on 21 February. He noticed the unusual oval feature only after developing and viewing the film. He reportedly retained two acceptable frames from a larger group and furnished them to the agents. Subsequent letters explicitly describe voluntary submission and transfer to Air Force investigators at Selfridge, rather than confiscation by unidentified strangers.
A later document records the slide’s return and an Air Force explanation involving improper development, which Perry’s supporters disputed. That explanation and the discrepancy between 13 and 21 February belong beside the photographic claim. They do not establish either an alien craft or an intentional hoax. No occupant appears in the source material, and the investigators were ordinary people in the aftermath, not beings seen aboard the object. The illustration consequently shows photographic work and an interpreted slide, with month-level dating and no invented close encounter.
