Case description
In April 1960, a farmer later identified as fifty-year-old Armand Leberou was riding a moped along a country road near Scaër in Finistère, Brittany. The exact day is not known; a later expanded account gives the time as about 11:00 a.m. The moped reportedly lost power or stalled. Leberou then saw a metallic oval or saucer-shaped object hovering close to the ground in a nearby field before settling there. Its diameter was estimated at about six metres, with a long metallic pole rising from its top.
A single man emerged. He appeared human and European, was approximately 1.8 metres tall and wore a green one-piece suit. Approaching in a friendly manner, he spoke clear French and invited Leberou to inspect the object.
Inside, Leberou reportedly saw seats, operating levers, a map, analogue-style dials and other instrument panels. The man attempted to explain aspects of the propulsion system. A later retelling adds that Leberou accepted a short demonstration flight over fields and towns before being returned to the same rural location. The occupant then said farewell, reentered the object and departed silently at high speed.
The account entered Project 1947/UFOCAT and later vehicle-interference catalogues. Those shorter accounts describe the moped malfunction, invitation, six-metre craft and visible equipment; the witness's name and demonstration flight appear in an expanded secondary retelling. The time spent at the roadside and the duration of the moped's malfunction are not given.
