Case description
The Peridot-area digest appears to refer to the fuller Lorenzen account of a woman driving west toward Globe with her husband and two children in early June 1960. The book's heading gives 10 June; her quoted recollection begins on the night of the ninth and places the sighting shortly after midnight, at about 00:05 rather than the ledger's 00:20. Her husband Joe and both children were asleep when her Cadillac rounded a bend on the hilly highway.
The headlights illuminated a small figure approximately a hundred yards ahead on the right shoulder. It seemed about to cross the road, then turned toward the car and ran into a wash beyond the beams. She recalled a roughly three-foot, broad-shouldered form with long arms and a dark, poorly defined, possibly furry body. Its head was flattened and pumpkin-like, with yellow-orange luminous eyes. She distinguished no nose, mouth or ears. This differs markedly from a generic Gray figure.
The driver accelerated and woke Joe, who proposed going back. She refused, preferring to stop among lights and people in Miami before continuing the vacation. Lorenzen knew the woman and trusted her account, but Joe verified her frightened reaction rather than seeing the figure himself. The two sleeping children likewise cannot be counted as direct witnesses. No craft was involved. The illustration retains the roadside form and family car while treating the precise location, likenesses and body texture as approximate.
