Case description
Carlos Sabino, a twenty-five-year-old tailor, said he was walking his dog Filipe near a place called Perras, at Algoz in the Algarve, when he noticed a brilliantly illuminated object. Ballester Olmos’s 1976 catalogue gives approximately June 10, 1960, at 3:30 a.m.; the Atlas import retains only June. The catalogue cites Diário de Notícias of June 12.
Sabino reportedly first thought the object was a car, then recognised a disc-like shape. Hiding nearby, he said he watched about six men around it. The object subsequently rose vertically at speed. While he was running home it allegedly reappeared, illuminated the ground with an intense beam and departed again. The dog was said to have run off in fright.
The accessible account records neighbours’ assessment that he was trustworthy and frightened, rather than independent confirmation of the craft or its occupants. It gives no reliable facial features, detailed suits or extraterrestrial identification for the men. The plate combines the initial hidden observer, dog, six distant humanlike figures and luminous disc; the later beam is described in text rather than presented as a simultaneous second event.
