Case description
Helen Aldridge reported that a buzzing noise awakened her at about 1:30 a.m. one night in August 1960 at Belmont North, near Newcastle, New South Wales. Looking outside, she saw a bright, round object in an adjoining paddock, roughly fifteen to twenty-five metres from the house. Its shape was compared to a large musical spinning top.
A small humanlike figure, estimated at about one to 1.2 metres tall, reportedly approached through the garden while looking down at the ground. It wore a dull olive-green, close-fitting suit, a helmet and pale grey or white footwear. When it came within several metres, Aldridge went to fetch her son. On returning together, they found neither the figure nor the object. Her son therefore did not independently witness the approach described in her account.
Aldridge kept the experience largely within the family until a relative informed the UFO Investigation Centre around 1967. It was subsequently published in the December 1969 Australian Flying Saucer Review and entered Keith Basterfield's catalogue. The interval between the stated event and investigation is material. The surviving summary does not establish photographs, a physical trace or a verified mechanism for the sound and light. The plate illustrates the reported approach, with unspecified facial and craft details kept interpretive.
