Case description
An agricultural worker identified as M. Faure reportedly encountered a bright rectangular phenomenon while returning home near Lavaure in the Puy-de-Dôme, France, one evening in October 1960. The HUMCAT summary places the event between 20 and 25 October, at approximately 7 p.m.; the catalogue retains only the month. Faure estimated that the luminous rectangle was about ten meters away and three or four meters above the ground.
Within the bright area he said he could see the upper portions of two humanlike silhouettes. Their rounded head coverings were interpreted as helmets, roughly forty to fifty centimeters across. The account does not resolve faces or establish that the figures had any particular alien anatomy. The illumination suddenly went out. A search the following day reportedly revealed no traces. The catalogue additionally records a southwestward departure, a detail less explicit in the fuller HUMCAT summary.
The documented publication trail leads to Jean-Claude Ameil's investigation in Lumières dans la Nuit 95, published in October 1968, approximately eight years after the stated event. That delay matters when assessing recollected distance, size and sequence. A bright rectangle containing apparent figures does not establish the shape of an unseen surrounding vehicle, and the inferred helmets should not become invented large-headed gray beings in a reconstruction.
