MT. ETNA, ITL, Connecticut, Italy
Case description
At approximately 10:00 p.m. on April 30, 1962, Eugenio Siragusa, then forty-three, reported an encounter on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. The setting was a dark volcanic landscape away from the main city lights. Siragusa said a very bright object was present nearby, described in the early catalogue as a dazzling disc about fifteen meters in diameter. The object's brilliance dominated the scene, but the surviving abstract does not provide a measured altitude, landing marks or a detailed description of its arrival.
Near the craft stood two men of normal human height and appearance. Both wore close-fitting outfits compared to diving suits, including hoods or covered heads. Around their waists were broad belts that emitted intermittent yellow, green and blue light. They did not display weapons or physically restrain the witness. Instead, they addressed him in Italian. Siragusa described the voice as having a metallic quality and said the central subject was peace. The surviving brief account does not preserve a full transcript of their message.
The encounter ended without a reported attack, abduction or medical procedure. The compact entry does not describe the departure of the figures or their craft.
Jacques Vallée included the report in the chronology published with Passport to Magonia, citing Flying Saucer Review volume 9, number 1. That source chain supplies Siragusa's age, the two normal-height men, their diving-suit clothing, the multicolored belt lights, the metallic-sounding Italian speech and the approximate diameter of the object.
