Case description
The Crespo case became national news in July 1962, but corrected press testimony reproduced by Roberto Banchs dates the alleged encounter to 3 June, around 01:15. Early reports used the names Gazcue or Gazua and described two blond giants, or alternatively three fantastic beings and an unnamed trucker. The 18 July publication date later entered catalogues as the event date. Banchs eventually traced the story to doctor Luis Tabuenca and his wife Margarita Webster.
In the corrected Córdoba account, the couple remained inside their slowly moving car near the winding road between Racedo and Las Delicias. Approximately eighty to one hundred metres into a field, they allegedly saw a bright, truncated-cone or cylindrical object, three or four metres high, with elongated windows and thick walls. A normally sized man in diver-like clothing emerged through a door; his hood had a welding-mask-like viewing slit. Another similarly covered head was visible inside. The outside figure seemed occupied with the apparatus. The couple continued driving and did not report a takeoff.
Banchs found no physician registered under the early published names. Tabuenca acknowledged being the story's protagonist but declined a new detailed interview. Landowner Raúl Aranguren alleged that his friend had later admitted the story was invented. That is a serious, secondhand hoax allegation, distinct from Tabuenca's own recorded refusal to discuss it. The plate explicitly follows the corrected press version while flagging the later allegation and conflicting dates, without combining blond giants with masked occupants.
