Barcelos, Brz abduction report — September 16, 1962

The September 1962 Amazon reports grouped in this entry contain two connected newspaper stories. Near Barcelos, three rubber-plantation workers reportedly approached a brilliant light over the river and saw a large silvery disc emitting sparks. It hovered before rising vertically with a loud noise. Seventeen chickens, six pigs and two cows were subsequently reported missing in the district. A separate report concerned Vila Conceição on the Padauiri River on September 16. Visiting football referee Telemaco Xavier disappeared after a match. A search reportedly found his whistle near a forest clearing. A plantation worker then said he had watched a luminous disc land and three occupants seize a person walking near the clearing, carry him aboard and depart. The January 1963 APRO Bulletin reproduced the newspaper chain and associated the disappearance with Xavier. It did not describe an onboard account or his eventual return. The animals at Barcelos and the person allegedly taken at Vila Conceição are separate parts of this regional report, rather than one witnessed removal of a man and all the animals together.
