Case description
The Atlas preserves a short report assigned to February 1963, north-northeast of Adelaide: one adult and three children reportedly saw a saucer land near a road and a small humanoid emerge wearing breathing apparatus. Frank Edwards’s Strange World, page 24, is cited in the underlying Hatch record. The compressed entry does not name the witnesses or establish the precise road, duration or appearance of the figure.
A potentially related, substantially better documented Adelaide account concerns Ellen Sylvester and her three children on 28 October 1962. Keith Basterfield recovered a contemporary interview in which Sylvester attributed most occupant details to her nine-year-old son. That version describes an orange oval object at considerable distance, round windows, apparent landing legs and a figure resembling someone in a gas mask. It was an evening observation, not the noon time attached to this Atlas entry.
The similar family composition and breathing-equipment motif suggest a possible transmission link, but do not prove the records identical. The February 1963 entry is retained separately without importing Sylvester’s name, children’s ages or additional vehicle details as established facts. Its plate illustrates only the limited catalogue claim and labels the unresolved identity. The source conflict remains a research question rather than a silently corrected date.
